Accessibility at the Benson Ford Research Center
Motorized doors are available at the south entrance to the Benson Ford Research Center, near the Greenfield Village entrance and directly across from Josephine Ford Plaza. All areas of the research center and reading room are wheelchair-accessible.
Parking
The nearest accessible parking is available in the parking lot on the North side of Village Road just off the entrance to Greenfield Village.
The reading room provides the following resources:
- magnifying glasses
- loupes
- hands-free adjustable table light with magnifier
- LED headband magnifier
- adjustable height chair
- light boxes
- digital microfiche reader with adjustable screen brightness
- headphones
- nitrile (latex free) gloves
- accessible restrooms
Service dogs and ponies are welcome in the reading room.
Wheelchairs and Motorized Scooters
These are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. We do not take advance reservations for wheelchairs or motorized scooters. Rentals are available in the Welcome Center and Greenfield Village ticket building. Wheelchairs can be rented for $4.00 for the entire day, and scooters can be rented for $20.00 per day. Rentals require a current driver’s license to leave at the renting desk and completion of a rental agreement form. Maximum load capacity is 350 pounds. Personal motorized wheelchairs, electric scooters and wheelchairs are welcome.
